McCain Surging in Polls

Sen. John McCain is surging in the national polls. According to the recent Rasmussen Daily Tracking Poll, McCain leads his fellow GOP contenders and leads both Sen. Hillary Clinton (49% – 38%) and Sen. Barack Obama (46% – 43%).
Rasmussen Daily Tracking (National)
| John McCain | 24% |
| Mike Huckabee | 19% |
| Mitt Romney | 14% |
| Fred Thompson | 12% |
| Rudy Giuliani | 10% |
| Ron Paul | 2% |
However, it should be remembered that we’re still in the early stages. If Thompson surges in South Carolina or Giuliani’s Florida strategy pays off these numbers could change quickly. More importantly, national poll numbers mean little in state primaries. If they were supremely important, Howard Dean would have waltzed to the 2004 Democrat nomination and Rudy Giuliani would have swept through Iowa and New Hampshire.
